Miami Beach, Florida– With so many new pop-up restaurants and bars opening up after the pandemic, Miami Beach has become a hotspot for the newest and most unique eateries in the country. One of the more recently developed establishments seen in Miami Beach is The Smoking Pie, which once resided in New York City. The restaurant has since relocated to Miami Beach, where it has been updating its menu to feature quality ingredients, fresh from their kitchen to their customers. Most recently, the brand has begun featuring pasta on its menu.

Black owned business, The Smoking Pie is owned and operated by Michael Laboy, alongside his wife, and works to redefine the traditional pizza pie. The company’s menu is extensive, featuring a wide array of pizzas, cocktails, appetizers, and newly, pastas. The Smoking Pie aims to branch out and provide a unique experience to its patrons, keeping up with the always shifting landscape of Miami nightlife.

As a combination bar, lounge and restaurant, The Smoking Pizza offers a menu that includes 12”, personal pizza pies that come in a variety of artisanal and unique flavors. Laboy works to stand out from the competition by creating new and innovative menu items that keep customers coming back to try every new flavor combination.

Some of the more popular pizza flavors are inspired by the tastes of Miami Beach– the Pizza a la Lobster, and the Shrimp Scampi Pie. These two seafood pizzas bring the beach vibes right to The Smoking Pie’s tables. Their namesake pizza, “The Smoking Pie”, includes both lobster and shrimp, along with a homemade vodka sauce and mozzarella cheese. This pizzeria is creating a robust rotation of menu options in hopes of satisfying a wide variety of customers.

In an effort to keep standing out among bars and lounges in Miami, Michael Laboy wanted to add a twist to his pizza shop and create a space exclusively for adults. That being the case, The Smoking Pizza offers signature cocktails that pair well with their pies. The menu is always updating, as after two years in the business, Laboy recognizes the need to change things up every now and again.

“Change is the only thing that is constant in business,” says Laboy, “and no one can make any profits with age-old thinking methods. An entrepreneur should always have an open mind to learn new things.” This sentiment holds true even on a small-scale when it comes to The Smoking Pie and its menu.

The newest addition of pasta dishes to the menu shows how far the company has come, straying from the typical and traditional menu one would find at any other pizzeria. The pasta that The Smoking Pie serves includes Chicken Parm, Mac and Cheese, Penne a la Vodka, and Rasta Pasta.

In spite of the challenges faced when it came to the pandemic and relocation, The Smoking Pie found a new home in Miami Beach, where the brand has been thriving and seeing exponential growth. Laboy discussed his biggest challenge when it came to raising the money to open this business in the first place, and then having to shut it down. The relocation was a hard and risky choice, but it is one that he expresses he had to make, for the good of his family and his business’s potential success.

With the world shifting with each day, Laboy explains that, as an entrepreneur, one must always be on the lookout for innovation, as is seen through the ever updating menu. The Smoking Pie has rolled with the changes by being ready and willing to reinvent itself as often as it needs to.

The Smoking Pie is a restaurant and bar/lounge that serves pizza pies as well as drinks and offers a Hookah service. The company is excited about its two year anniversary since its relocation in Miami Beach, Florida. The store is located at 1625 Michigan Ave, and operates as an adults only pizzeria.  For more information regarding The Smoking Pie, visit their website.
