Devin Davis on Why the 5 F’s of Life Are So Important to Complete Success

Devin M. Davis, a Senior Credit Specialist, Business Coach, and retired U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, is the guy you wish you had for a neighbor - not because he’s willing to water your lawn while you’re on vacation (he is) but because he likes to use his experiences to help others to improve their lives. As the author of Business Credit Secrets and the builder of Boost Score Now, a financial services company, Devin has worked hard since his days in the Corps to find success as an entrepreneur. Now, as his career continues to grow, he is guiding more people to understand how they, too, can be content and successful.

“I get a lot of questions on how I created the life I wanted for myself,” Devin reflects. “I think it’s because there are so many individuals who are dissatisfied with how their lives are going. Perhaps you are one of them. Your life might not be terrible, but it might not be exactly what you want it to be, either. Maybe you’re just stuck and don’t know how to propel yourself forward. Either way, I understand, and the 5 F’s of Life can provide you with the direction you need. They are a must for complete success.”

The first F stands for Faith. “This is a tricky one because what, exactly, people have faith in will differ,” says Devin. “So, first you must define what you have complete trust or confidence in when times get tough. Typically it’s something bigger than yourself. Perhaps it’s God or the universe. Maybe it’s your own abilities or the reality that tomorrow always has the potential to be better.”

However faith is defined, Devin states that it is crucial that a person devote themselves to it each day. With so many obstacles coming at them, they will need their faith to see themselves through them. “You cannot reach success without faith,” Devin says. “Devoting yourself to it each day will keep you grounded and help you to navigate the inevitable bumps in the road as you journey to success.”

Family is the second F. “Again, how you define this may be different from other people: you might call your family your spouse and children while someone else might say their family is their close group of friends,” says Devin. “Regardless, family is crucial for you to have complete success. We all have an innate need for companionship and authentic relationships with others. If you neglect your family as you pursue financial success, you may achieve your goals but at a price that leaves you empty.”

The third F, Fitness, makes Devin laugh a little. “Let’s face it - none of us are getting any older,” he says. “Your body is the only one you will ever have, and you are not going to attain complete success without taking care of yourself every day. Be sure that you are treating your body with kindness by eating right, exercising, and staying fit. There are no real Benjamin Buttons on this planet, so stay in tune with how you feel as you get older. Your health will always be a primary part of your success.”

The fourth F, Devin continues, is Finance. While this is what many people think of when they picture being successful, he cautions that it is actually far deeper than they might realize.

“Yes, we all want the big bank accounts, but how many stories have you heard of people who won the lottery and then went broke?” he asks. “When I say Finance, I am talking about structure and discipline. Financial success cannot come if you don’t first have the right mentality about money and about how to put it to work for you. So, before you pursue financial success, be sure that you understand how to manage it responsibly when it does finally come your way - and it will.”

The final F is Fulfillment. Devin has known individuals who were wealthy and at the top of their careers but were not fulfilled. “It’s actually a very lonely, empty place to be,” he believes. “We all have a deep yearning to be useful and to use our skills for a higher purpose. People who pursue success without examining themselves and giving voice to their inner desires will often live flat, even meaningless lives. Every truly successful person I have ever known has always felt the joy of fulfillment.”

Devin believes that by committing themselves to the 5 F’s each day, everyone can be successful in all areas of their lives. “Remember: the definition of success can be different depending on who you ask,” he says. “Don’t get wrapped up in whatever anyone else is doing. Instead, just focus on the 5 F’s in your own life in whatever order you decide to tackle them. You’ll be surprised at how soon your life begins to change for the better.”
