Trust Consulting Services Surpasses $50 Million in Revenue

Washington, D.C.—Trust Consulting Services, a D.C based business consulting firm, hits an impressive milestone of $58 million in  revenue. The company was founded in 2015 by CEO James Radford, a retired Air Force Contracting Officer, author, and certified public speaker. The path leading to the company’s creation was far from smooth. James hadn’t set out to become an entrepreneur when he joined the Air Forces, but after a series of life-changing events, he learned to make a stand in this unexpected role.

“A lot of things happened at once during that time. I suffered a work-related injury while I was stationed in Germany and got sent back home to the US. I got divorced, diagnosed with a life-altering illness, had to medically retire, and now had to take care of four children on my own. And I was still trying to pursue my MBA,” James reflects. “I can only describe the entire experience as traumatizing. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do.”

After having to leave the Air Force, James reached out to a connection in the Coast Guard where he worked as a contracting consultant. There, he helped smooth out the Coast Guard’s Acquisitions and Procurement operations as he already had experience doing so in the Air Force. He then extended his services to Homeland Security, Washington Headquarter Services, and a number of other agencies. He felt a spark in this line of work and knew that he could use his skills to make a difference while also securing a more stable future for himself and his family.

James notes, “It would have been easy to stay where I was, but something was telling me to put myself out there and really get my momentum. But there was just one problem: I had no idea how businesses worked! I could fix what was already there, but I didn’t have a ground floor understanding of how to get those operations started. And just like that, God answered my prayers and put me where I needed to be.”

James ended up partnering with a small business to help them optimize their current business model. Because the operation was smaller and he’d be working more closely with the team, James got to see the day-to-day functions of a business, learn the ins and outs, and really understand the logistics of building his own company.

“I was really feeling it, and I’ll admit that I got comfortable. I started to toy around with my idea of going solo, but I wasn’t really committed to it. And once again, God came through for me. The more I played around, the more He listened until one day He cut the supply line. I realized that something was wrong with the business I was working with, and the owner wasn’t being forthright. I was being promised a paycheck instead of being given one. It wasn’t long before we all found out the mistakes he had made, and the business ended up going under. That’s when I knew it was time to take a leap of faith.”

James put everything he had learned and experienced into Trust Consulting Service’s launch in 2015. He secured his first contract with the Department of Transportation, and the state of Maryland called him down to help with staff temporary hospitals during the COVID outbreak in 2019. Since its launch, the company has helped place 700 jobs in the state of Maryland, secured twenty federal contracts, and has expanded its team to almost 500 seasoned experts.

“Even though I went through a lot of dark times after my dismissal, I never would have started Trust without that push. I’m not even sure it would have even come to my mind. Times were rough for a while, but I told myself, ‘You can’t sit in despair, James. You can’t park the car here.’ I had to provide for my family; I had to bring back our stability; I had to do it for myself to get out of those dark times. Now, when I look at Trust’s success, I’m absolutely amazed. Sometimes, if I think about it, I just get rooted to the spot and say, ‘Wow, I made it.’”

At the current rate of growth, the company estimates that its revenue will grow to $100 million in the next five years. Though Trust has developed deep connections with in-person networking, the company is taking more efforts to build its online community across several platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
