How Legit Is Boxabl?

Boxabl, a construction/technology startup with an innovative approach to building houses, has earned a strong reputation both within and outside of the construction industry for its efficient mass production of houses via assembly line processes. Boxabl reached a new level of prominence when Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that he had purchased one of the company’s products.

Musk purchased the Casita, a 375 sq. ft. studio apartment configuration that cost him $50,000. After Musk confirmed his purchase of the Casita, the product’s waitlist grew to include over 110,000 customers.

Boxabl’s reception by the general public has varied. While many believe that Boxabl will pave the way toward more affordable housing, others are skeptical about the company’s practicability. Those who are skeptical often cite the fact that thousands of Boxabl customers have not yet received their Casitas. The ratio between customers who have received their Casitas and those who have not reflects poorly on the company’s track record, the company’s critics suggest. However, this apparently unpropitious ratio can be more soundly attributed to the Casita’s long waitlist as well as the general tendencies of Boxabl’s customers.

A significant portion of Boxabl customers who have received their Casitas are not inclined to make their purchases known on social media. Since many are drawn to the Casita for its ability to provide comfort, stability, and convenience in remote locations, many customers who have received their Casitas use the product to put more geographic distance between themselves and heavily populated areas. In consequence, those who have not yet received their Casitas tend to be more conspicuous than those who have.

Some commentators have also expressed skepticism with regard to the company’s claims and aspirations. Boxabl believes that it can make home ownership more accessible by producing houses at a faster rate. The company also believes that their products will provide longer-term utility to their customers and will incur lower environmental costs than living spaces created by other developers.

From the company’s intensive study of assembly line methods in the automobile industry, the company is now capable of factory-producing one house per minute. Having cut down on overhead and human labor costs, Boxabl is able to provide houses at much lower prices than most realtors or developers will charge. By outcompeting other developers in this manner, Boxabl expects to become the preeminent developer in the worldwide construction industry.

Because Boxabl’s houses are produced in factories, they do not expose the environment to the pollution and environmental decay that typifies outdoor construction projects. They can be installed and removed from areas much more cleanly than traditional houses, resulting in less significant environmental impacts. Furthermore, a spokesperson for the company says, “Boxabl’s units are foldable—they can condense into compact form for shipment and unfold on a lot in under an hour. This innovation makes transportation efficient, cost-effective, and less environmentally taxing than all other operations in the industry.”

Boxabl’s use of assembly line methods ensures a much speedier production of houses. If Boxabl continues to expand and the company’s products become more commonplace, this will greatly reduce the waiting period that is currently the bane of all construction projects. Furthermore, owing to the Casita’s simplicity of design and highly compatible parts, the house is easily renovated and rearranged. With minimal time expenditure and at no extra cost, Casita owners can easily find the floor plan that suits them best.

While Boxabl has its fair share of detractors and skeptics, the company’s prodigious rate of production, highly affordable pricing, and environmentally sustainable designs will likely provide enough evidence of the company’s legitimacy in the coming years for even its staunchest critics.
