Physician and Entrepreneur Dr. Sahil Gupta is Making Strides with Oma Fertility

SAN JOSE, California – Oma Fertility, a division of Oma Robotics, is taking steps to make fertility services more accessible and affordable for everyone. Dr. Sahil Gupta, Co-Founder, and Chief Commercial Officer of Oma has been crucial in ensuring that the services provided to patients are as comprehensive, successful, and affordable as possible.

Oma Robotics & Fertility Services

The Company's first major innovative breakthrough is Oma Sperm InSight™, which uses AI to help pinpoint the most promising sperm cell for use in IVF. Identifying the highest-quality sperm is extremely helpful for increasing the odds of conception. Offering services like egg freezing, frozen embryo transfer, and donor egg IVF, the clinic stays with you through every step of the process and maintains consistent and clear communication. Oma opened its first fertility clinic in Santa Barbara in 2021 and now operates in 5 different cities across the country.

In conventional sperm selection, an embryologist typically spends less than one minute examining 20 sperm cells and selecting one cell per egg. The process is highly manual, time-constrained, and subjective, with high rates of disagreement between embryologists about what a healthy sperm cell looks like. Oma’s AI technology, Oma Sperm InSight, was created by a team of engineers, AI experts and fertility specialists who spent many years developing the system to evaluate the morphology (shape) and motility (pattern of movement) of each sperm cell in real time. To train the AI, Oma created a large dataset of individual sperm cells that were analyzed by a panel of embryologists. The AI within Oma Sperm InSight was trained to predict the consensus opinion of the panel.

Oma was Founded with Accessibility in Mind

Oma Fertility was founded in 2020 by a team of the best and brightest engineers and AI experts. The concept for the business came after founder Gurjeet Singh spoke to an acquaintance who had gone through IVF. Singh was horrified to learn that the couple endured six cycles of IVF without success, paying $45K for each cycle and eventually having to file for bankruptcy. Bringing on co-founders Dr. Sahil Gupta and Kiran Joshi, Singh made sure to include experts in the fertility services business on the ground floor, particularly Dr. Sahil Gupta who previously succeeded in this endeavor with his founding of Aveya, a chain of fertility clinics in India and Nepal which brought quality medical care, a high rate of pregnancy, with fees that were affordable to the general public.

Gupta’s prior success with Aveya, based on his business model to integrate AI into the fertility sector, attracted huge investors. Because Gupta’s business plan had already proven successful, Oma Fertility has raised $29M through seed funding and a Series A funding round led by JAZZ Venture Partners, Root Ventures, Mithril Capital, Global Asset Capital, and Free Solo Ventures in addition to an $8.5M debt facility led by Silicon Valley Bank. Other notable investors include Shumeet Banerji (BoD at HP, Reliance Jio, and BBC), Suchi Saria (Founding Director, Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare, CEO at Bayesian Health), Jon Symonds (BoD and Chairman at GSK), and Jack Tai (BoD at Eli Lilly, HSBC, Mastercard).

Dr. Sahil Gupta is Making Fertility Services Affordable

Dr. Sahil Gupta is one of the co-founders and the Chief Commercial Officer at Oma Robotics and Oma Fertility. He is a physician by training and previously founded and opened Aveya, a chain of eight fertility clinics in India/Nepal, serving as Founder/CEO. Dr. Gupta is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School, where he completed the General Management Program.  He earned his Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Safdarjung Hospital in India, and with that is proving himself a pioneer with a business plan that has changed the face of fertility treatments for the better.

By joining Oma Robotics, he is providing a safe, affordable avenue for couples and individuals seeking fertility services. In the United States particularly, which is one of the most privatized, and therefore the most expensive, health industries in the world, Oma is helping people get access to affordable fertility services without sacrificing the quality of health care or successful results.

Dr. Sahil Gupta has a long track record of providing affordable services for couples or individuals seeking new approaches to fertility technology. Fertility treatment in India typically ranges from $2000 to $3000, making it unaffordable to the general population. Dr. Gupta sought out to make a change, believing that the public deserved to have affordable options with the addition of advanced technology. “I launched Aveya with the hope that using artificial intelligence will improve outcomes and will bring affordable reproductive medicine to the common people.”

Prices for IVF have skyrocketed and are now over $20,000 dollars for one cycle in the United States and it usually takes more than two cycles of IVF to achieve success. Dr. Gupta has co-founded Oma Fertility, in conjunction with the best and brightest engineers to streamline a cutting-edge process where AI and robotics help in enabling consistency in success rates and make IVF more accessible and affordable to the general population. This process allows for even more successful treatments due to the elimination of human error with AI, while reducing the cost to the consumer.

Bringing balance to his work, Dr. Sahil Gupta is determined to bring fertility services to a larger demographic by making them affordable, safe, and easy.
