Dr. Sahil Gupta and Oma Fertility Provide Affordable IVF Procedures

SAN JOSE, California – Healthcare costs have skyrocketed. One service that has seen an exponential rise in cost is fertility treatment, but there is good news. Oma Fertility, and its CCO and co-founder Dr. Sahil Gupta, are determined to make IVF and fertility treatments affordable again. In addition to being affordable, Dr. Gupta has revolutionized fertility treatment using artificial intelligence in conjunction with robotics to improve success rates. Dr. Gupta’s cutting-edge approach has both lowered the cost and boosted successful outcomes by eliminating human error.

Oma Fertility

The company's initial major innovation was Oma Sperm InSight™. The technique uses artificial intelligence to help pinpoint the most promising sperm cells for use in IVF. This increases both the quality of the sperm and the rate of successful IVF. Oma Fertility opened its first fertility clinic in Santa Barbara, California in 2021 and has plans to expand nationally through 2023.

Conventional IVF is a highly manual process, and there is significant disagreement between embryologists about what a healthy sperm looks like. On average, Oma found that embryologists agreed on assessments of sperm cell quality only about 50% of the time.1 In fact, when an embryologist was given a dataset that they themselves had previously labeled, they disagreed with their own prior assessment in 15% of the cases. At Oma Fertility, they knew that they could help improve the IVF process and outcomes by designing AI to support sperm selection and help reduce the number of IVF cycles required.

Gupta’s prior success with Aveya, a chain of fertility clinics he established in India and Nepal, based on his business model to integrate AI into the fertility sector, attracted huge investors to Oma. Because Gupta’s business plan had already proven successful, Oma Fertility has raised $29M through Seed and Series A rounds led by JAZZ Venture Partners, Root Ventures, Mithril Capital, Global Asset Capital, and Free Solo Ventures in addition to an $8.5M debt facility led by Silicon Valley Bank. Other notable investors include Shumeet Banerji (BoD at HP, Reliance Jio, and BBC), Suchi Saria (Founding Director, Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare, CEO at Bayesian Health), Jon Symonds (BoD and Chairman at GSK), and Jack Tai (BoD at Eli Lilly, HSBC, Mastercard).

AI-Powered Services that are Affordable

What makes Dr. Gupta and Oma Fertility unique is the fusion of AI, Robotics, and top-quality medical care. World-class engineers and world-class doctors collaborate at Oma Fertility and the result is unlike anything the industry has ever seen.

With great power comes great responsibility, and that is why Dr. Gupta strives to make these life-changing services accessible to everyone. With his entrepreneurial spirit, extensive knowledge in the field of infertility, and a vision to use AI and robotics, Dr. Gupta has finally found an avenue to share his vision with the world.

Dr. Gupta has a long track record of providing affordable services for couples or individuals seeking new approaches to fertility technology. “Typically, IVF and fertility treatments around the world are priced at an outrageous cost of $5000-8000 per cycle. In the US, that cost is a generally whopping $20,000 and it takes multiple cycles on average to achieve a pregnancy. This is essentially a paywall that keeps out the public and makes fertility impossible for those that struggle and can’t afford it,” Dr. Gupta said.

Co-founder Dr. Sahil Gupta has brought with him, his success with previous fertility clinics such as Aveya and has helped the company to expand to different locations across the country. By combining AI and robotics in the lab and human-centered care, the clinic will make parenthood possible at a more affordable price.

Choosing the most promising sperm cells to pair with eggs can help improve IVF outcomes early on in the process by creating more healthy embryos.
