Rejuvenating Fertility Center (RFC) Overcomes Cancer & Infertility

Cancer is a dreaded word that can mean huge life changes - or begin an end of life plan leading to heartbreak and sadness for families and individuals. But in this age of modern medicine, there is often hope for cancer patients. With the latest treatments and equipment, many people beat cancer and go on to live long, full lives.

However, those fortunate survivors are often faced with a slew of health issues that will last the rest of their lives - and that often includes infertility. While certain types of cancers can certainly affect fertility, especially any kind of cancer of the reproductive system, it’s often more likely that harsh chemotherapy or invasive surgeries affect survivors’ fertility. In addition, those with a family history of cancer and/or infertility are more likely to be at risk for fertility problems.

What defines infertility? There are several key factors that can lead to a female being diagnosed as “infertile”:

  • Ovaries lacking healthy eggs (low ovarian reserve)
  • Disruption in the hormones essential to help with egg release (ovulation)
  • Tumors or other issues affecting the ovaries or uterus (womb), causing these organs to malfunction
  • Damage another part of the reproductive system, such as the fallopian tubes, thus preventing the egg from getting fertilized by the sperm
  • Issues with the fertilized eggs sticking into the uterine wall (recurrent implantation failure)
  • Recurrent miscarriages, meaning that the fetus cannot be carried to term and the pregnancy is terminated by the body

Certain scenarios are more likely to cause infertility as a result of cancer; for example:

  • The type of treatment, be it chemotherapy and/or radiation
  • How heavy the doses of medications are and how they affect the body
  • The patient’s age and co-morbidities

Some cancers of the reproductive system require surgery that removes essential portions of the reproductive system; but radiation therapy can also affect fertility, and so can the drugs used in chemotherapy. For those proud survivors of cancer, barring those who have undergone major surgery to the reproductive system, there is hope for having children. Cancer does not have to condemn the survivor to missing out on the joys of motherhood. Even if surrogacy is the only possibility due to surgery, that can still lead to a happy family.

Rejuvenating Fertility Center (RFC) is the first non-conventional fertility center located in New York City, Long Island, Brooklyn, Westchester, and Connecticut, but serving women and couples all over the world. Founded by medical director and award-winning fertility specialist Dr. Zaher Merhi, RFC pioneers the latest technology alongside time-honored holistic approaches to offer a myriad of different options for hopeful parents who have history of cancer.

RFC offers conventional services such as surrogacy and egg donation, as well as traditional IVF; but that isn’t the best choice for everyone. Many cancer survivors have had enough of needles! This is where RFC truly outshines the competition by offering several methods of “needle-free” and gentle IVF. In addition, cancer survivors are usually sick and tired of ingesting harsh drugs; RFC’s Natural and gentle IVF options, and/or the “Do It Yourself” IVF package, allow patients to make choices about what they’re putting into their bodies.

Another option that many cancer survivors explore is egg freezing, and RFC does that, too! No matter what health problems a woman has faced, there is always an option, and RFC is dedicated to offering more possibilities than any other clinic. RFC believes, regardless of age or weight, that the process should be as natural and painless as possible and puts patient comfort above all else.
