Rejuvenating Fertility Center’s Dr. Merhi Joins “The Period Party” Podcast

On September 12, 2022, Rejuvenating Fertility Center (RFC) founder and medical director Dr. Zaher Merhi joined @NicoleMJardim, The Period Girl, as a special guest on her podcast, “The Period Party.” The title of this episode (number 270 for the popular podcast) was “An Unconventional Approach to Fertility and IVF”.

That is exactly what Dr. Merhi is: groundbreaking. On this special podcast, the world renowned and award-winning fertility specialist shared expertise gained from over 20 years in the fertility field, culminating in the founding of Rejuvenating Fertility Center (RFC), the first non-conventional fertility centers located in New York City, Long Island, Brooklyn, Westchester, and Connecticut but serving the whole world.

During the podcast, Dr. Merhi shared the essentials of why it’s so important to take an unconventional approach to in vitro fertilization (IVF). Dr. Merhi spoke on his unique approach to IVF and preserving fertility, the most common causes of fertility issues, how environmental factors contribute to fertility issues, why he focuses on egg quality instead of egg quantity, his passion for making positive changes in the field, the non-traditional IVF approaches that Dr. Merhi advocates at RFC, and more.

The host of “The Period Party” is Nicole Jardim, author of the book Fix Your Period, which focuses on how to work with your body’s built-in healing mechanisms to naturally treat period symptoms. She includes 6 science-based modules designed to be readable and easy to understand, and walks readers through key health areas to reveal root causes of uncomfortable period symptoms.

The discussion covers what low ovarian reserve actually is, and why it’s so key to understanding fertility, as women are born with all the eggs they will ever have. Unlike the male production of sperm, women don’t produce new eggs (even though this has been recently challenged by new research). And some women are born with fewer eggs than others. For those born with fewer eggs, they may reach the age of 35 or 40 with a very low number of remaining eggs in their bodies. This is what reserve means - though, as Dr. Merhi points out, this has nothing to do with the quality of those eggs.

He adds that a low number of eggs is not always a reason to panic, at least if you are dealing with knowledgeable fertility specialists like the team at RFC. After all, as Dr. Merhi always says, it only takes one single egg to make a baby! So a low number of eggs might not be the problem, but rather the quality of the eggs that do exist. In addition, he reminds listeners that infertility is often not even an issue with the woman, but rather with the male partner, and that low quality sperm is commonly an issue as well.

However, many women automatically assume “guilt” for infertility and rush into traditional/conventional IVF before achieving a thorough diagnosis, thus bombarding their bodies with a slew of heavy doses of medication and enduring painful injections over and over again. RFC takes a much more holistic approach, with regard to overall health, and is committed to complete diagnoses prior to beginning any kind of treatment. The entire body is also considered, as RFC advocates for stress relief methods such as acupuncture and anti-inflammatory treatments such as Ozone Sauna.

Dr. Merhi also covers what it means to have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis, and how these issues can affect fertility, as well as how RFC is working to overcome these fertility problems. He also wants listeners to know that RFC is dedicated to helping all couples to conceive, including LGBTQIA+ couples.
